- At Safety Seats, we provide Child Car Restraint Installation and Inspection Services. We are located in Werribee and offer a mobile service to Melbourne's Western Suburbs. Safety Seats is a professional member of ACRI (Australia Child Restraint Resource Initiative) and has undertaken the necessary child restraint training and accreditation. We continue to remain up to date with new products and vehicles, changes to installation instructions, updates to laws and legislations, safety recalls etc. With over 9 years experience fitting thousands of child restraints across Melbourne, you can rest assured that we are the best in the West! Safety Seats also holds Public Liability Insurance and a Working With Children Check for your peace of mind.
- Did you know that 3 out of 4 car seats are fitted or adjusted incorrectly? Your child is the most precious cargo you will carry around and using the correct restraint for your childs age/ weight/ height and having it adjusted and installed correctly is vitally important (and a legal requirement)! At Safety Seats, we aim to provide you with the knowledge, confidence and understanding of how to install and use your child restraints correctly to keep your children safe when travelling in the car from day to day.
- Safety Seats always promotes best practice recommendations based on years of research, testing and development by manufacturers and leading safety organisations. *We reserve the right to decline any service that does not meet best practice recommendations (on a case by case basis) or legal minimums. As such, we recommend that you:
- - Rear face to the maximum marker in an extended rear facing seat. This is approximately 2-3 years of age
- - Forward face to the maximum marker in an extended harnessing seat. This is approximately 8 years of age
- - Continue to use a tall exit booster seat with lap sash seatbelt until outgrown and the child meets the 5 Step Test. This is approximately 8-12 years of age
- - Remain in the backseat, not the front seat, until 13 years of age (and passes the 5 Step Test)
- These best practice child restraints and recommendations have been developed to minimise injury or death in an accident. Protecting a childs spinal cord, airways and internal organs, as well as preventing internal bleeding, brain injuries and broken bones is crucial, as the crash forces sustained in an accident, even at low speed, are horrific. Seatbelts are designed for adults- using each best practice category of seat until outgrown before moving to the next category is recommended to be the safest choice.
- The Law in Australia is the minimum you must adhere to and states that children must be restrained in a suitable child restraint for their age and size that meets current Australian Safety Standards (in Victoria this is AS/NZS 1754: versions 2004/2010/2013) and that it is correctly installed and adjusted for the following ages: - 0 to 6 months to be restrained in a rear facing capsule or child restraint (N.B. The minimum rear facing height marker on the child restraint must be reached before turning forward facing which is approximately 12-18mths of age in most seats)
- - 6 months to 4 years to be restrained in a rear or forward facing child restraint with in built harness
- - 4 years to 7 years to be restrained in a forward facing child restraint with in built harness or a booster seat with lap sash seatbelt
- - 7 years+ to be restrained in a forward facing child restaint with in built harness, booster seat with lap sash seatbelt or may sit directly on vehicle seat with no restraint
- Remember, never use aftermarket products or clean your child restraints with anything other than what is recommended by the restraints manufacturer.
- If your child restraint is more than 10 years old, has been in an accident or is damaged/ mouldy, it needs to be destroyed as it is no longer safe to use. Further information can be found on our Facebook page, by messaging us or by contacting your child restraints manufacturer directly.

19 POINT CHILD RESTRAINT SAFETY INSPECTION
A 19 Point Child Restraint Safety Inspection includes an assessment of the child's fit in the restraint, check of the seat belts, anchorage, harness, tether and fitment. If we need to re-install the seat, installation fees will apply.
Inspection per seat: $20* *A $10 MOBILE SERVICE FEE APPLIES IF WE COME TO YOU. *If we are unable to complete your installation due to factors beyond our control (child restraint is damaged, over 10yrs old, not suitable for the childs age/ size, no anchor point, does not fit in vehicle etc) the mobile service fee will still apply.

CHILD RESTRAINT INSTALLATION
Child Restraint Installations include a 19 Point Child Restraint Safety Inspection. Once installed, we will demonstrate how to fit and adjust the child restraint to fit your child. You will receive the necessary information, instructions and knowledge to perform your own safety checks, adjustments and re-installations when required. Should accessories such as gated buckles, anchor bolts, tether extension straps etc be required, additional costs will apply.
Install one child restraint with instructions: $40* Install each additional child restraint with instructions: $30* *A $10 MOBILE SERVICE FEE APPLIES IF WE COME TO YOU. *If we are unable to complete your installation due to factors beyond our control (child restraint is damaged, over 10yrs old, not suitable for the childs age/ size, no anchor point, does not fit in vehicle etc) the mobile service fee will still apply. (We are located in Werribee. Further travel fees may apply if located more than 30mins away from our Werribee location or at our discretion).
FAMILY DAY CARE INSPECTIONS Family Day Care Annual Inspections are available by appointment and are charged at the above installation fees. Please advise us when booking. CHILD RESTRAINT CLEANING Car seats will ONLY be cleaned in accordance with the manufacturer specifications. This means that no steam, vinegar, disinfectant, stain sprays/ soakers etc will be used as these can compromise the integrity of the webbing, fabric and shell. This may mean that some stubborn stains may not be able to be removed fully- but we'll do our absolutely best! Please note- mould can NOT be safely removed for car seats! $70 per seat* (cleaning only, standard re-installation fees apply). *A travel fee is charged if requiring pick up or drop off, please enquire for a quote.
*There is a 48 hour turn around for all cleans. If you require your seat any earlier, please speak to us at the time of booking. *Child restraints that are excessively dirty will incur additional cleaning fees at our discretion. We do not clean vomit/ excrement due to heath and safety. *Re-installation is charged at our standard installation fee.

Pre-Purchase Shopping Trips
We can also assist you in the purchase of your new child restraint or an additional seat, especially if needing to fit a tricky 3 across combination. We are able to meet you at a Baby Store near you and help to select the right seat for your vehicle, budget and child. We can then install the seat into your vehicle once purchased and adjust to fit your child correctly. Please contact us to discuss fees.
Installation and Inspection EventsSafety Seats is able to provide Inspection or Installation Events to mothers groups, playgroups, childcare centres, family day care schemes, charity events, markets and more. We are happy to donate our time and services to a limited number of fundraisers and charities upon application.
Accessories Available to Purchase
Additional approved safety accessories are available to purchase if required such as tether extension straps, Secur-ap straps, locking clips, buckle guards, seat protection mats, rear facing mirrors, anchor bolts, anchor hook safety clips and more.
Top Tether Change Over (Britax)
We are approved to undertake top tether change overs by Britax so that you can access the top tether adjuster on your rear facing seat from the drivers side of the vehicle. Please note- this must be changed back when turning forward facing. There is no additional charge if we are installing the seat also.
Anchor Bolt Installation
Installation of anchor bolts where a pre-existing anchor point is already present from the manufacturer is able to be done by Safety Seats. If no anchor point exists (certain dual cabs, SUV 3rd row, bus etc), a Type 2 fitter, Engineer and VASS Signatory will need to be engaged to fit a compliant point and provide the necessary modification plate and VASS Approval Certificate. Safety Seats is unable to assist with this. Please refer to your vehicle manual to confirm.

Payment Methods
Safety Seats can accept cash, card or bank transfer. Card payments are via Square and incur a 1.9% processing fee.
All payments are due at the time of service unless otherwise approved. Invoice terms are strictly 7 DAYS for businesses engaging our services.
